2026 Bike Roundup Notes - The Tom Wilstead Memorial Bike Roundup is a wrap (almost)Here's a note from our director, Tim Stewart. THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! The first Tom Wilsted Memorial Bike Roundup is now history and was a success due to the energy, commitment, and efforts of volunteers. A special thanks goes to the main steering committee which was composed of Vicki May, Hank Deutsch, Larry Coffin, Tom Ward, and Karen Rainford. All of these people contributed significant expertise over the several planning meetings in the months preceding the event. The two day roundup was supported by approximately 16 volunteers in various shifts who did a superb and efficient job in whatever tasks assigned. On Saturday we were busy in the a.m and received about 35 bikes and the associated bike “Stuff”. From 12 to 2:00 pm about 15 more bikes were dropped off. We dispatched several volunteers out to pick up bikes throughout the both days. We collected approximately 60 bikes by the end of the day. Sunday we received another 40 bikes with a couple bikes coming in after the 2:00 pm closing. We are still receiving requests to help by picking up bikes and transporting them to one of the beneficiary organizations. THE GRAND TOTAL WAS 100+ bikes plus a huge amount of bike stuff. HURRAH! Our recipients, OS3 (Nogales) and BICAS were surprised by the volume and quality of the biking contributions. Neither non profit organization typically get donations of this large volume. Twelve of the bikes were evaluated and determined to fit the Continental schools mountain bike parameters. SOPORI Elementary was only given three bikes since most bikes were too big or mechanically in poor shape. We will confer soon with the SOPORI principal and explore the possibility of purchasing some new inexpensive bikes for the most needy elementary kids. Stay tuned for the possibility to contribute to a site specific fund once we have all the specifics defined and the need determined. The two day bike roundup was great fun from the perspective of securing/collecting bikes and the associated gears for people in need. But it was also special in that there was time for a lot of good conversation with interesting and caring GV folks. We talked a lot “of story”. Thank you, warmly, Tim Donated bikes and equipment went to:
