We recently had a request from a Green Valley resident who was looking for someone to assemble an e-bike that she planned to buy online. She indicated that the Bike Hub said that they don't offer this paid service.
We referred her to bike shops in Tucson, and told her that members can post want-ads for items or services in the newsletter. What could/should our club be doing about handling this type of request? Please comment below.

Our GVR Cycling website received a question from a non-member who thought we might have some expertise to share. Click on Comment and then type in your helpful hints- make sure you include your name. Here's her question:
I'd like to start riding again after MANY years. I doubt I'll ever be up to the level of being able to join your group, but wondering if someone could guide me in how/where to buy a women's 26" comfort bike for casual riding in parking lots and easy trails. Thank you! Suzy We have been sending out newsletters since mid-April to all paid members of GVR Cycling. We wanted the newsletters to be more widely available to potential new members, so we added a new page to the website. In the menu, however over NEWS and you'll see a drop-down for Newsletters.
If you have information to submit for upcoming newsletters, please email it to gvrcycling@gmail.com. Plans are underway for the GVR Cycling Club’s Bike Drive in support of BICAS. It is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, March 20 and 21, from 9-12 am and the drop-off point is the Good Shepherd Church, 17750 North La Canada. Everything cycling-related can be donated. Three bikes and several boxes of bike gear have already come in. To make this event a success, we need to get out as much publicity as possible. GVR has put notices about this on their bulletin boards. There has been an article in the Green Valley News and we hope to have a second notice closer to the event date. We will also be on the KGVY radio program on the Wednesday before the event. There is a poster for the event giving all the event details- click HERE to download it. We would really appreciate your help in publicizing this event. If you can get this poster out to any groups you belong to – HOAs, Clubs, churches, Public Bulletin Boards – this would be really, really appreciated. If you are riding with a group, let them know this event is coming. If you think of other avenues for publicity, don’t hesitate to let us know. If you need more information about BICAS, you can go to their website - https://bicas.org/about/awards-facts/ If you have questions, please contact Tom Wilsted, tom.wilsted@uconn.edu, 860-214-2822 or Hank Deutsch, hankdeutsch@gmail.com, 608-498-5619. Acting GVR Cycling President Hank Deutsch is proud to announce that the GVR Board of Directors voted on January 29th to approve our application to become a GVR-affiliated club.
On our first official day as a club, we had 145 members on our interest/ membership list, and we thank each and every one of you for your continued support and enthusiasm. We're working on treasury policy so that we can begin collecting dues of $10 per person per year to support the website, the non-profit application, and other startup and ongoing costs of running a vibrant club. Join us to celebrate at the February 12th meeting at 3pm at the Santa Rita Springs Center. Here's a sneak peek at our bike drive in March. You'll be hearing lots more about this during February and March. Last year we picked up and donated 80 bikes, and we weren't even a club yet.
The GVR Cycling Club will be holding a bike drive on March 20th and 21st in support of BICAS in Tucson. For those of you unfamiliar with BICAS, it is an organization that recycles and refurbishes bicycles for youth and adults for free or at low cost. BICAS accepts and, indeed, needs not only bikes but bike parts, bike clothing, bike, racks or anything to do with biking. The Club will be getting out publicity through GVR as soon as we are an official club. However, in the meantime, tell your friends and let them know about this event. If people are going to be away for those dates or are unable to deliver bikes or parts off to the drop-ff point, contact Tom Wilsted – tom.wilsted@uconn.edu or 860-214-2822, and he can arrange to have bikes or gear picked up. If you would like to help with this event: receive bikes/bike gear on the bike drive dates, pick up bikes/bike gear, or help with publicity, please contact Tom. Join the event! Click to SIGN UP and indicate your preferences by Feb 10, 2020. If the sign-up link doesn't work, paste this into your browser: https://forms.gle/LKBYjmjgdqvZz7hv7
The GVR Cycling club is hosting a tour of BICAS (Bicycle Inter-Community Art and Salvage) in Tucson for Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at 10am. During the tour you will learn more about BICAS programs, see their workshop, training and sales areas. There will also be time to purchase items if you need some new or used parts, bikes, clothes, etc. To make the day more interesting, those who are interested can join together for lunch. I am suggesting that we go to Zinburgers on River Road. The restaurant has a range of salads, burgers, malts, and wine for those imbibing. Zinburgers is close to The Loop for those who want to ride afterward. If you don’t want/eat lunch, you can go straight to the loop and go home afterwards. As always, there can be carpooling for all who are interested. We’ll be meeting at West Center near the tennis courts. BICAS is located at 2001 N 7th Ave, Tucson, AZ 85705. This is a block east of Stone Ave. and 4 blocks south of Grant Road. It should be an educational and enjoyable day for all. If you have questions in the meantime, or if your plans change and you need to cancel, please contact Tom Wilsted – tom.wilsted@uconn.edu or 860-214-2822. Tom Wilstead, our VP, recently compiled the first draft of a list of informal cycling groups in the Green Valley, AZ area. Click HERE to see the list as of January 1st, 2020.
