Bike DRive- Donate all things bicycle

Here's a sneak peek at our bike drive in March. You'll be hearing lots more about this during February and March.  Last year we picked up and donated 80 bikes, and we weren't even a club yet.

The GVR Cycling Club will be holding a bike drive on March 20th and 21st in support of BICAS in Tucson.  For those of you unfamiliar with BICAS, it is an organization that recycles and refurbishes bicycles for youth and adults for free or at low cost.
BICAS accepts and, indeed, needs not only bikes but bike parts, bike clothing, bike, racks or anything to do with biking.

The Club will be getting out publicity through GVR as soon as we are an official club.  However, in the meantime, tell your friends and let them know about this event.
If people are going to be away for those dates or are unable to deliver bikes or parts off to the drop-ff point, contact Tom Wilsted – tom.wilsted@uconn.edu or 860-214-2822, and he can arrange to have bikes or gear picked up.

If you would like to help with this event: receive bikes/bike gear on the bike drive dates, pick up bikes/bike gear, or help with publicity, please contact Tom.

The GVR Cycling club is hosting a tour of BICAS (Bicycle Inter-Community Art and Salvage) in Tucson for Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at 10am.  During the tour you will learn more about BICAS programs, see their workshop, training and sales areas. There will also be time to purchase items if you need some new or used parts, bikes, clothes, etc.

To make the day more interesting, those who are interested can join together for lunch.  I am suggesting that we go to Zinburgers on River Road. The restaurant has a range of salads, burgers, malts, and  wine for those imbibing.

Zinburgers is close to The Loop for those who want to ride afterward.  If you don’t want/eat lunch, you can go straight to the loop and go home afterwards.

As always, there can be carpooling for all who are interested. We’ll be meeting at West Center near the tennis courts.  BICAS is located at 2001 N 7th Ave, Tucson, AZ 85705. This is a block east of Stone Ave. and 4 blocks south of Grant Road.

It should be an educational and enjoyable day for all.  If you have questions in the meantime, or if your plans change and you need to cancel, please contact Tom Wilsted –
tom.wilsted@uconn.edu or 860-214-2822.
