FROM THE BEGINNING
Green Valley had many avid cyclists, but no central club. Loosely affiliated groups of cyclists planned rides and met to share ideas and biking knowledge. Newcomers to Green Valley looking for clubs that match their interests were stymied to find no cycling club. A small group of acting officers formed a committee to recruit bikers in the Green Valley community. They held meetings and developed an email interest list of over 100 cyclists. The acting officers developed a club application and submitted it to GVR. Our application was approved on Jan 14th, 2020 by the GVR Board Affairs Committee. On Jan. 29th, 2020, we received official club status from the GVR Board. We ;hold an annual membership meeting in November to elect officers and consider by-law changes. |
THE CLUB TODAY-2024
We had 80 paid members in 2024. Our interest list has grown to more than 200 emails. We continue to work on our website and on building community, and continuing as a clearinghouse for local riding groups who are open to new members. Members stay informed by attending the meetings, reading the monthly email newsletters, and checking the website. Click on the Membership page for member information. At the Feb. 2020 meeting, we began charging nominal annual dues ($10 per member) to recover the minor costs of running the club and the website, and maybe even some snacks at meetings. We elected to continue charging $10 per person dues for 2023 and 2024 to continue to cover the website and other minor costs. We are considering requesting a GVR space for a cycle repair facility. Email us at [email protected] if you're interested in that initiative. |
