Green Valley/Sahuarita Ride of Silence – Wednesday, May 17
Meet at 5:30 PM, ride at 6:00 PM – GVR East Center We are pleased that David Waechter, from Gilbert AZ will be joining us for the evening. The death of a cycling partner six years ago led him to the 3FeetPlease initiative. He maintains a web site with safety information and is a true bicycle safety advocate encouraging the adoption of 3feet laws nation wide. Please say hello to him and pick up a free ‘3feetplease’ sticker. More here……(hint - on the FB page scroll down just a bit). https://3feetplease.org/ https://www.facebook.com/3FeetPlease/ The son of Tucson resident Jean Gorman was struck from behind and killed in 1999 while training for the El Tour. The 17 year old driver was cited with a $66 fine for unsafe passing. Following this tragedy Jean was instrumental in working with state legislators to implement the Arizona three feet law in the following year. Jean was also the person who made us aware of the international ‘Ride of Silence’ and launched our annual observation of this event 18 years ago. Look for publicity in the upcoming issues of the Sahuarita Sun and the Green Valley News Santa Cruz Valley Bicycle Advocate Committee |
